Debra Des Vignes is the founder of the Indiana Prison Writers Workshop a not-for-profit program based in Indianapolis, Indiana. This program delivers creative writing workshops through the Indiana Department of Correction to men and women who are currently serving prison terms in the state’s correctional facilities. Service to men and women impacted by incarceration began during her decade-long career as a television journalist. Covering court and crime beats for new stations in cities such as Los Angeles, California, and Birmingham, Alabama. Before IPWW, and after leaving journalism, Des Vignes held executive-level communications positions for multiple not-for-profit organizations. She’s done coverage for CNN, U.S. News, World Report, The Miami Herald, and others. Des Vignes is also the author of the chapbook, Sunday Sweet Sunday, a story of transformation and hope after working with those behind bars each Sunday.
